THE LONG MILES TRIO BOX
We’re super excited to once again offer you amazing coffee from our long time partners in Burundi, Long Miles Coffee! This year we’re going full tilt and releasing three coffees at once!
All three coffees are from the same washing station, Heza, but from three separate hills and with different post-harvest processing. What connects them all however, is an amazing clarity and juiciness with vibrant fruity flavours.
In this box you get 90 g of each, so that you can experience them side by side.
NKONGE hill, located at more than 2000 m.a.s.l., is where Long Miles has its own small plot of land, adjacent to almost 400 coffe farmers. This is where they experiment and use best farm practices on its 5300 coffee trees, so that they can educate and inspire other farmers. This coffee was placed on raised beds right after the harvest, to slowly dry in the shade for several weeks. The meticulous selection and constant care to the drying process, gives an intensely sweet and bright coffee, bursting with fresh passion fruit and yellow plum.
GITWE hill is bursting with life and movement and here 637 farmers are delivering cherries to Heza at 1900 m.a.s.l. This year, after the coffee was pulped, it was sealed in containers after harvest, creating an environment with reduced oxygen. The coffee was stirred every 12 hours, and after 72 hours, the coffee was placed on the drying tables. This is a textbook example on how to process coffee to enhance the inherent flavours of the coffee rather than altering it. The coffee is really sweet and fruity, with crisp, clear flavours of blackberry and nectarine.
GISHUBI hill is located at 2200 m.a.s.l. and neighboring the Kibira forest. Here 291 farmers provide cherries to Heza washing station, cultivating the coffee slowly due to the cooler meso climate. After harvest, the cherries are pulped and put in open basins for 24-48 hours depending on the ambient temperature, and then dried carefully. This results in a fruity, vibrant coffee with flavours of raspberry, blood orange and caramel.
LONG MILES COFFEE PROJECT
A TRIO FROM BURUNDI
Being able to offer a coffee from Long Miles Coffee in Burundi, with whom we have a long and close relationship, always feels super fun and exciting. I bet you can imagine the feeling when we now release three coffees from there at the same time – pure bliss! The coffees come from three different hills and after harvest they are all gathered at the Heza washing station, where they are processed with three different post-harvest methods. Another thing that connects them all is an amazing clarity and juiciness with vibrant fruity flavours.
