Modest Matcha
This timeless and elegant brew has finally assumed its rightful place in the spotlight. There is nothing quite like it. Matcha makes the most out of green tea leaves, and can be served hot or cold, with or without milk. It is not only delicious, but healthy and filled with antioxidants as well. This organic matcha from Dear Tea Society is of course a character in herself just waiting to get to know you.
"Modest Matcha has lived her entire life on the slope of Aso, Japan’s most active volcano. As the roars of the volcano intimidated the village, she sat perfectly still and found peace in her matcha ceremonies. Today, at the age of 27, she is already the most respected ceremony leader in the group of elderly. Everyone crave her perfectly prepared matcha tea, presenting clear umami notes and a full bodied experience."

Making matcha at home is simple – whether you drink it pure, as a latte, or iced. The basic recipe starts with about 1.5 grams of matcha powder (around ¾ teaspoon) and 70–100 ml of water at 75–85 °C. Whisk vigorously until the foam becomes light and bubbly. For the best result, use a matcha whisk (chasen) and whisk in a “W” motion.

MATCHA / FAQ
What is the difference between matcha and regular green tea?
Matcha is a finely ground powder made from whole tea leaves, which means you get more nutrients and antioxidants than with regular green tea. Our Modest Matcha is produced in Kagoshima on the island of Kyushu, where the tea plants are organically grown and slowly stone-milled – following traditional Japanese methods.
Is matcha caffeine-free?
No, matcha naturally contains caffeine, but combined with L-theanine it provides a smooth, balanced energy. Modest Matcha has exactly that pleasant effect – perfect for focus without stress.
When is the best time of day to drink matcha?
Morning or early afternoon is best – whenever you need a gentle, steady energy boost. Modest Matcha is excellent as your first cup of the day or as an afternoon ritual.
Is matcha good for the skin?
Matcha is rich in antioxidants that help protect skin cells. Our organic Modest Matcha, grown in Kagoshima, is of premium quality and completely free from additives – a beautiful choice for caring for both the inside and outside.
How much matcha can you drink per day?
1–2 cups per day is enough for most people. Since Modest Matcha is so flavorful and powerful, just 1 gram is often enough to deliver taste, color, and effect.
Is matcha good for training?
Yes! Many people experience improved endurance thanks to its steady caffeine release. Modest Matcha, made from the Okumidori, Saemidori, and Yutakamidori cultivars, provides a balanced energy boost – without feeling heavy.
Can children drink matcha?
Matcha contains caffeine and is therefore not suitable for small children. Modest Matcha is however 100% organic and natural, which makes it safe in small amounts for older children and teenagers.
Which matcha is best for lattes?
Modest Matcha! Its smooth texture and umami-rich flavor shine through even with oat or soy milk. The organic cultivation and traditional stone milling give it a round, full taste – perfect for drinks like matcha latte.
How long does matcha last?
Unopened, it keeps up to 12 months. Once opened: store Modest Matcha cool and dark – preferably in its original tin – and use within 2–3 months.
Why is matcha so expensive?
Matcha requires craftsmanship: our leaves are hand-picked, gently steamed, and slowly stone-milled. Modest Matcha is also made from three specific cultivars – Okumidori, Saemidori, and Yutakamidori – all chosen for their quality and flavor.
How can you tell if matcha is good quality?
High-quality matcha is intensely green, smells fresh, and tastes smooth. Modest Matcha has a vibrant green color, fresh aroma, and a clear umami that reveals its origin and quality.
Can you use matcha in cooking?
Yes – but Modest Matcha is best enjoyed as a drink! For baking, we recommend a simpler Culinary Grade, while our matcha is ideal for drinking. Check out our matcha recipe here!
Can I use matcha in smoothies?
Absolutely! Modest Matcha blends easily into smoothies and adds both energy and an elegant green flavor. Try it with oat milk, mango, and ginger for a fresh boost.
Do I need a special whisk to make matcha?
No, but a chasen – the traditional bamboo whisk – makes a big difference. It helps dissolve the powder properly and create a beautiful, creamy foam. We sell a quality chasen from Mount Everest Tea – perfect for elevating your matcha experience.
How long should I soak my chasen before use?
Place it in water for 1–2 minutes before whisking. This makes the bristles less brittle and reduces the risk of breaking. Rinse the whisk with water immediately after use – but avoid dish soap.
How do you whisk matcha without a bamboo whisk?
Use a milk frother or an electric whisk if you don’t have a traditional one. Thanks to the fine stone milling of Modest Matcha, it still dissolves easily. If you’d like to buy a chasen, we’ve got you covered!
Is all matcha vegan and gluten-free?
Pure matcha is naturally vegan and gluten-free – and that of course includes our Modest Matcha. No additives, just 100% organic Japanese green tea.
