SUSTAINABILITY & DIRECT TRADE
Sustainability – a certainty
SUSTAINABILITY AT EVERY STAGE
The absolute most important thing for us is that coffee production is sustainable, all the way. It starts with the plant, which thrives in fertile and nutrient-rich soil, surrounded by diverse vegetation. In short, it's a nature that grows and lives freely, not dictated by mass production. Those who truly understand this, who know their environment and coffee cultivation, are our producers. Individuals who, just like us, share the passion for coffee that grows, harvested, and is processed with care!
Bags filled with the finest green coffee arrive at our facility in Länna, where we take on the responsibility for sustainable and gentle treatment. Our roasters are powered by biogas, and we utilize hydropower in production – small but vital steps to minimize our footprint. Even the final step, the delivery to our customers, is done in partnership with a company that offsets 100% of the carbon footprint.
We care about our planet and collaborate with producers and partners who share the same values. Now and always!

Independent Verification
Enveritas
We know that you care about how the coffee you drink is grown, processed, and sourced. We also know that there is no one-size-fits-all solution for the challenges faced by farms worldwide that produce that coffee. We believe that the best way to help farmers is to invest in them. Improvements to a supply chain do not happen overnight. They take time, dedication, and resources.
That is why we have partnered with Enveritas, an independent nonprofit organization, to assess sustainability issues in our supply chain.
Enveritas works to provide roasters, farmers, consumers, and other stakeholders with a deeper understanding of the most challenging issues facing today’s coffee producers. Enveritas offers roasters like us, who are committed to working toward solutions, an opportunity to help advance meaningful social, environmental, and economic change throughout their supply chains.
CLOSE RELATIONS
DIRECT TRADE
We want more people to be able to drink really good and sustainable coffee and are convinced that the road there is based on transparency throughout the value chain. From the plant. To the cup. To get there, we have to look at the conditions they are today and respond to and in many cases improve them. And we do. By buying directly from the producer, we can be sure that everything is going right - there are no intermediaries that can cause unclear information.
But we are not content! In addition to transparency and clarity, we have added two more criteria for we to label a coffee with Direct Trade: long -term and close relationships. Together with our Direct Trade producers, we evaluate the coffee and plan for the future. In this way, we strengthen both our own and each other's operations. Together we get better!
DIRECT TRADE
PROJECTS
The way we work, side by side with our producers, gives an interest and commitment that we really like. And it is mutual.
There are plenty of projects that are going on, all to improve "now" and ensure "later". Of course, all projects are dependent on us and others buying coffee from the farms, but we have also chosen to provide some extra support to some of them. Some over a long time and some for a specific and time -limited campaign.
The extra nice thing here is that our customers can also contribute by buying and drinking the coffee where some merit goes straight to the project. Everyone can do better!
J&N x FAF Coffees
LET THE BIRDS SING
The boboline is a small, fine -like bird that spends its winters in South America. When the metallic, bubbling frame that makes up its
Song was increasingly heard the coffee farmers felt that something had to be done - the destruction of forest to grow coffee (among other things) stole the bird's home. There, the Bob-O-Link started the project.
A small sub -project in this large, long -term project is "For a Healthy Soil" which we run together with FAF Coffees. The money goes to agronomists who on site help Bob-O-Link producers keep the earth
on its land fertile and well -being over time. The goal is to reduce the dependence on fertilizers and instead find more efficient and sustainable ways to work with the earth. The agronomists develop individual plans together with each producer and these are evaluated annually.
In addition to a starting sum to kick off the project, 5 SEK/kilo is always sold coffee by Bob-O-Link Espresso there.

SOLAR CELLS FOR CHRISTMAS
The Christmas project of 2022 was to collaborate with Long Miles Coffee in Burundi to install solar panels on the roofs of their washing stations to ensure essential electricity supply. During the day, workers pick the coffee cherries, and when the evening shift takes over at the washing station, it gets dark. In addition to lighting, energy is needed for water pumps, separation machines, and other equipment – much of the operation depends on electricity.
Previously, all the electricity came from diesel generators, and acquiring diesel was difficult, time-consuming, unreliable, and expensive. Instead, harnessing solar energy is a win for everyone, including the environment.
"Light is coming!" was the joyful and spontaneous comment from our friends and producers in Burundi when they received the Christmas gift from Johan & Nyström. With 20 SEK per kilo Christmas coffee we sold, and an additional gift from us, the total amounted to 80,000 SEK, and the solar panels are now in place! The old diesel containers? They are sitting in a corner collecting dust.
