It's important to clean your espresso grinder to maintain its performance and ensure the quality of your coffee. In this post, you'll learn how regular cleaning prevents the buildup of coffee oils, residues, and stale coffee in the grinder, which can affect the taste of your espresso.
Here's a step-by-step guide on how to clean your espresso grinder:
We recommend following these steps weekly:
- Close the gate between the hopper and the grinder to prevent beans from falling out when you remove the hopper.
- Empty all coffee beans into a bowl. Replace the hopper on the grinder and open the gate.
- Grind out any remaining coffee left inside the grinder.
- Add 0.5 decilitres of cleaning pellets (Grindz) and grind them all out.
- Remove the hopper and clean it with lukewarm water and soap. Rinse thoroughly and dry even more thoroughly. Never use a dishwasher.
- Replace the hopper on the grinder when it's completely dry.
- Pour the coffee beans back in and grind until all traces of the cleaning pellets are gone.
- Finally, calibrate your espresso as the grinder settings may have changed slightly after cleaning.
For a thorough cleaning of your grinder, we recommend that you once a month open the grinder and clean the burrs inside with a brush and cloth.
You'll need the following tools:
- 17mm U-spanner
- Flathead screwdriver
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Borste / Trasa
