DJ1–DJ2 | Platinum Tier | 50 g
This is the very first tea of the Darjeeling season – the exclusive DJ1–DJ2 batches from the legendary Puttabong Tea Estate. Picked in mid-March and air-shipped just days after harvest, it captures the pure essence of spring in the Himalayas.
First Flush teas are harvested between mid-March and late April, depending on the elevation of the tea garden. These early leaves are the plant’s first growth after winter, known for their bright, crisp, and aromatic character. Each batch is marked with a DJ number – with lower numbers like DJ1 and DJ2 indicating the earliest and most sought-after harvests.
This tea is graded SFTGFOP1 – which stands for Special Finest Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe, grade 1. It’s one of the highest leaf grades in Darjeeling, meaning it’s made from the finest young leaves and buds, carefully processed to preserve their delicate character.
First Flush teas are also categorised into three tiers:
Silver – bright, lively early harvests.
Gold – more complex and aromatic.
Platinum – the rarest and most refined picks.
This tea belongs to our Platinum tier – a delicate, vibrant, and beautifully fresh expression of the season.
We only have 10 bags of this 50 g release. A collector’s tea, and a once-a-year experience for any tea enthusiast.
PUTTABONG TEA ESTATE is one of Darjeeling’s most historic and respected tea gardens. Established in 1852, it was among the first tea plantations in the region, founded by British pioneer Dr. Campbell. The estate stretches from 457 to 1,980 metres above sea level, offering breathtaking views of the Kanchenjunga mountain range, the third-highest in the world.
Covering over 22 km, Puttabong is one of the largest tea estates in Darjeeling, known for its commitment to sustainable and organic tea cultivation.
A significant portion of the garden is dedicated to high-quality China tea bushes, grown under strict ecological practices. Biodiversity is a key focus, with areas of the plantation carefully maintained to support native plant species and soil health.
Puttabong’s first flush teas are highly sought after for their crisp, fresh character with floral and slightly sweet notes - a true reflection of the region’s terroir.
Welcome to Dear Tea Society, where the eccentric, the strange, the absurd, the thirsty, the tired, the restless, the beautiful, the creative, the rowdy, the cunning, the polite, the curious and the perfectionist all join together in our love of tea. We love all colours of tea and infusions. We love sharing a pot but are often caught drinking on our own. We need tea to think, to dream, to forgive and forget. In short: We love tea, it’s who we are.
